Welcome to my website!

Author Barbara L. Mehnert
Labor Day Weekend! You know what that means? Hanging out with writers, agents, editors, literary attorneys, and friends at WRITER CON. This was my fourth year and I’m already signed up for 2022. Here is a little teaser about my new book. A dead body, a university co-ed, a hooker, and Amsterdam. What do they have in common? Max Sterling!

I have recently celebrated a “0” birthday. You know, one with a number, then 0 at the end. This one has been externally delightful as I celebrate with, and hear from, friends and relatives scattered across the U.S.A. and internally insightful as it is most clear there are less years ahead of me then behind me. My attitude is mostly joyful for my blessings and abundantly grateful for the amazing people in my life. I continue to plan for new adventures which keeps my outlook fresh. There is a book simmering in my head, a trip on the horizon, and a question. Do you think 70 is too young to learn tennis?

First of all, congratulations to you, my long time friend.
Setting, working towards and reaching goals is what life is all about. (and I believe it helps keep us young).
I am so happy for you. Many of us have talked about writing a book, but few have accomplished it.
I hope to get an autographed copy sometime, but better yet…getting together at some point to visit catch up on life.
Take care and…”Happy Trails to you, until we meet again”
(your website is excellent)

Just finished NINE O’CLOCK last night. I could not stop with all the drama nearing the end. Your prose is enchanting at times, climatic in places…so much heart and soul. “Cozy Drama” is a perfect way to describe your style. The ending was realistic and encouraging. I so look forward to your next novel.

Barbara., I’m so happy you are having such fun and creative adventures. Regarding your question, I like a combination of pleasure and difficulty in the characters so yes real life. I also like things to turn out well. Growing thru life to positive not necessarily perfection. Good luck!!

What a great way to spend your time and enjoy creative pursuits, Barbara. I’m so impressed with your writing occupation. As to whether or not I prefer happy endings — while a happy ending can be satisfying in many ways, maybe that sort of ending can seem too predictable? It is perhaps the case that I prefer something less predictable. In that case I should really like how these last 12 months have developed. I’m not sure it is the case. “Endings” have been varied in so many ways in 2020 and into 2021. Developments may always keep on developing rather than “end?”

No matter the ending, it is great to read what you write. Thanks for putting it out for us to read.
